North Korea

July fourth is the day in which the United States celebrates it independence, and it is also the day that North Korea decides to launch several short range missiles towards the sea of Japan. In less then seven hours North Korea had fired seven missiles. These missiles where said to be scud-type which only travel as far as 310 miles, and South Korea has confirmed that they believe that North Korea has more then 700 of these scuds.

The recent firings come amid heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula. North Korea conducted a nuclear test in May, fired test rockets and threatened U.S. and South Korean ships near its territorial waters."The United States is aware of possible missile launches by North Korea. We are closely monitoring North Korea's activities and intentions," a U.S. official said. This isn't the first time that North Korea and Kim Jong has decided to put on their own firework show on the USA independence day. On July 4 2006, he test fired — unsuccessfully, it turned out — a long-range, multi-stage ballistic missile.

Is North Korea trying to send a message or are they just doing a military exercise that just so happened on 4th of July. To be honest no one really knows when it comes to North Korea, what we do know is that the United States and all its allies are taking note of what North Korea is doing and watching every move they make. One of the U.S. officials said "people are watching it, the military is watching it here, but I don't think it's related to any plans or operations to attack anyone." I hope that this official is right and we don't over look what is going on during the Independence day of the United states.

This increase in armaments by North Korea hauntingly reminds me of Hitler's gradual build-up of machinery and take-overs prior to his horrific massacre of Jews and launch into war. I distinctly remember in my A.P. U.S. history notes from class a long list of suspicious actions that Hitler took such as creating a weapons manufacturing factory and accumulating military equipment. Furthermore, what was scary is the fact that the United States and its allies all were "monitering" his actions but decided to let him have his way "just this one time" and "gradually" because we were afraid of angering him and launching into a war then and there. What happened was that we let Hitler build up his armies and take over countries (I can't remember the details; I think Hitler took over like Poland and surrounding countries, right? Someone refresh my memory?) Anyhow, Hitler was smart in that regard and we let him do it because we were afraid to make a move. I'm worried that this might be the case today. What if North Korea has a long-term goal similar to Hitler's or at least similar in his desire of taking over countries if not persecuting jews, and what if North Korea is slowly and gradually and secretly making itself strong enough for that future goal? I don't know. Just a thought.

Ya your right this needs to be taken seriously. What we do have now is the most powerful military behind us versus when Hitler was starting world war two. But we can not turn our shoulder to this and i dont think we will.
