WASHINGTON – By now we’ve all read the news. The United States House of Representatives has passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, by a razor-thin...
"Socialism does not work and we need to not go there! " - well, yes, you're broadly right there, but are you saying Capitalism does? In the middle of a worldwide economic depression and rocketing unemployment - including in the USA? Some Socialist countries have at least made a vague attempt at social justice instead of just letting the poor get trampled. And to the original topic of the article - I can't believe anyone is still peddling the 1990s line that there are doubt over climate change. Can I suggest you take a look at Arctic ice measurements in recent years? The most important thing on the global agenda is most definitely not cheap electricity! And the fact that corporate (capitalist!) interests have captured the US political system is surely a reason to fight harder for proper solutions to climate change - including curbing corporate activity - rather than rolling over and trying to claim it's just a left-wing hoax!
Thanks for all the input to everyone. Lets not forget we are all blessed to have this freedom to objectively discuss our views without fear of reprisal for it.
"Some social justice" really how naive are you? No one is peddling that the climate is not changing...it is but not for the reasons special interest politicians would have you believe. i would like everyone compelled to learn more make a comparison. Look at a chart of Earths temperatures over the last 1,000 years. Then compare that chart to a chart of solar activity of the last 1,000 years. These two are surprisingly similar. Now compare these two to a chart of CO2 out put fro the past 1,000 years. Any one who understands high school level statistics will see that there is a weak if any correlation between CO2 and Earths temperatures. In the 1940's we feared global warming, and then in the 70's we feared it was getting cooler. In many cases Earths temp rises years before a spike in CO2. i feel sorry for the people who see the "help the polar bear" commercials on TV and then give in to the so called crises.
let me remind the readers out there, weather American or not, of the American dream - To work your ass off and EARN everything you have in hopes that you will have a full life and a full life for your children. The American dream is not to take hand outs from a controlling government. Socialism destroys the American dream and breads a sense of entitlement from which nothing should be entitled except our god given right to liberty and OUR pursuit of happiness.
