4th of July Costs Too Much To Celebrate

Are you ready to celebrate Independence Day? Is this holiday so important anymore? Really, it is and it isn't. Just another day to spend too much money on. Just another day to get family mad at each other because nobody really plans in advance. Just another day to waste in your life doing who knows what when you could be doing something constructive in your life.

Okay, Independence Day has some advantages. However, I am just fed up with the cost of this celebration. I went to buy a few fireworks and ended up spending almost fifty dollars and only got one small sack of items.

I invited three couples that have seven children total, plus my son and myself. To feed 15 chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, fruit salad and cake cost me another fifty five dollars.

We are all meeting at the lake and gas too and from will cost me an additional ten dollars. Plus, I reserved a picnic spot and that cost me an additional twenty dollars.

So that is $135.00 for one evening's entertainment on a shoestring budget. I am poor and still I spent this. I know my sister spent more than three times this for her celebration with her friends. However, what is the point?

Do people really thank the government for the freedom that they have here in the United States? Or is it just another day like any other day with family and friends?
