We complain about the same old dirty politics. We say we want change and something different. But when people do anything that seems out of the ordinary we freak out and act like the sky is falling. You guessed it, I am referring to Gov. Sarah Palin’s announcement today that she is stepping down as Governor of Alaska at the end of July. Don’t’ believe me, just try and avoid the breathless commentary and countless theories being thrown about regarding her motives. Politicians don’t do this! This is a bold and risky move! This is political suicide! This is just her way of running away from problems in Alaska. And on and on and on. So which is it? Do we really want things to change from politics as usual? Or, as they say, are we actually more content with the devil we know rather than the devil we don’t? Is it possible Gov. Palin is actually doing something to avoid wasting millions of tax dollars just to hold her title? Is it possible she is going to make a difference outside of the normal realm of politics as we know it? Or is it because she is an evil republican or because she has boobs that we have to assume she is just stupid and can’t stand the heat? I say, good for you Gov. Palin. Finally someone putting it all on the line to do something considered abnormal for reasons that seem completely reasonable and I would go so far as honorable. She is turning in a powerful title to try and make positive change in a new way. Maybe it's time for us to give people, regardless of party affiliation, a chance to succeed when they act more like our forefathers than our current politicians before we judge their motives and tear them down.
