Palin has done well for Alaska and yes, this might just be a ploy to get away from the spotlight.

What I find frustrating is that the speculation is even out there that she will come back and run in 2012 and if she does that this was some great big huge "conspiracy" to beat Obama.

Sarah Palin has far more groups opposed to her views than supportive. She's been BLASTED by these groups and dragged through he mud by entertainers. WHY would she run? Because that must have been so much FUN?

I love that she leaves her "skeptics" wondering... where are the "skeptics" on Pelosi, Ried and ESPECIALLY Dodd and Frank? Are they sleeping or is it just a bit possibly that skeptics are partisan to the core and there is NO greater target than the white FEMALE pro-life governor who screwed up an interview and actually frightened a few skeptics and for a brief moment...made them sweat so much that they went through ever possible clothing purchase - phone call made - etc...just to throw bulls*it ethics charges against her and cost the State of Alaska way too much money???

It's a good thing no male politician ever screwed up an interview... isn't it?

Good article Jim - I find Palin intriging - it will be interesting to see which road she takes. My bet is the National speaking stage ...where she will make millions...but I've been wrong MANY times!

I agree with maryann... great article, though I understand the speculation. Palin is a fighter. If she walked away here it's because she knows how to pick her battles. I think she'll start with the speaking stage, but that it will keep her in the public eye, and over time people will come to compare her earthiness to the Obama administrations aloofness, and after that, all bets are off, but as maryann said, I've also been wrong before...

    You have not.

I believe Sarah is totally manipulating the spotlight to re-invent herself and try to come back in 2012. I also believe the GOP will allow her to be a "sacrificial lamb" against Obama if they don't see a viable candidate to defeat him.

I believe another interesting view on this entire fiasco - Palin resigns saying what "hell" she has been through - then says, "Lt. Governor Sean Parnell, it's all yours" - what a gift to give your Lt. Governor!

Palin is a total piece of work! And she ain't done yet, mark my words!

She's a piece of work - but it's ok for the GOP to use her as a sacrificial lamb? - Can't they use Ensign? What exactly is it that makes Sarah Palin more disgusting than Barney Frank, Chris Dodd or Nancy Pelosi - all who have had "ethical" issues and none of which were scrutinized to the extent of Palin.

You see, she did have it harder - and to deny that is simply covering up a bias. Sarah Palin - because she was picked by big "L" McCain who couldn't defend an ant hill - and was at best a moderate republican - and way too old - she was blasted. And, she was treated unfairly by us....women.... WE criticized her the hardest because a woman President is more a threat to Roe vs. Wade than a man? Not so.

Her Lt. Gov didn't run for VP - she's not going to have the same issues as Palin. Big difference.

Alexandra - if nothing else - think about the treatment she received - coming from both political party affiliations - and seeing the scrutiny of the females on the campaign trail (Hillary and Sarah) - Fair treatment? Equal treatment? I think not - women have a long way to go before they knock down the Presdiential or even the VP ceiling. American women are too busy discussing the shoes of these candidates than the issues.

The GOP has some time - and I think they'd be wise to start barking up a tree without ethical notches (Kasich). Palin is a losing ticket for them - whether you love her or hate her. You can't reinvent love for a pro-life female - and I think that issue will kill her chance at the nomination - polls already show women will not support her.

For a woman to come into the political spotlight, she must stop attempting to woo the public to love her - that is the biggest mistake Palin made. "I am pretty, I am talented, I am an excellent mother, et al".

I was not a Hillary supporter, but at least Clinton came out with a strong knowledge of the issues and a sense of the political machine. I DO believe Hillary is an excellent Secretary of State.

If a woman wants to be president, she must STOP being a woman and START being a strong, intelligent participant in the process.

By the same token, Sotomayor is currently under the same scrutiny as any woman who runs for office.

Is it fair? Absolutely not! Do I want a woman president? Yes - but more than that, I want a QUALIFIED individual to serve as president.

I see your point - but Sotomayor is also gone on record mocking the judges role as ruling based on the law alone. She's also made comments that suggest she has a better interpretation of the law base on race and sex.

That is, and always should be, an issue with a supreme court nominee. The GOP will be viewed badly for going after Sotomayor so I do believe her views may be mentioned - but she will with ease receive the nomination.

Politics aside - she does not carry the ethics for a justice of the Supreme Court. She is completely partial and biased in decisions and undenying of this. A lifetime appointment should never be pushed through for sake of one party not wanting to look bad.........again.

The GOP has no choice but to accept the nomination and Obama knew this all along.

Any politician with a brain manipulates the spotlight... it's basically business as normal for both sides.

I would not disagree, Firesisle, but she doesn't even do it well. Before she attemps to be out there again, she needs current events education, history lessons, geography classes, and a speaking class to effective communicate her thoughts.

Again, the public is NOT forgiving... the GOP needs to keep looking.
