The people at the top have put troops in these places for economic reasons maybe, but i would hope the people actually serving there are there for the right reasons. Ever read the book 3 Para? It documents a british batallions time in the country and gives the impression that the troops there genuinely want to make a difference for the Afghan people. If they can be given the support they need from our governments to do that, maybe it's all not in vain...
