Obviously he should resign. I'm surprised he hasn't or hasn't been forced to yet. Aren't there legal restrictions against using public funds and time for traveling to Argentina? Aside fro the obvious ethical implications. It just seems he is totally unsuitable for office if he's given to moments like this one.

Clinton, anyone? Bill Clinton? The definition of "is?" You democrats and your double standards are as bad as the Republicans and their hypocrassies. If there was no misappropriation of funds then he is what he is... a politician... and did nothing that nearly every other person in his position has done regardless of party.

Yes he should resign. There are legal restrictions on taking personal liberties during business trips or using public money. BUT they found he did not use the funds, which means that he TECHNICALLY has no grounds to be removed forceably for not doing his job or dishonoring his position. From a moral standpoint, there is plenty of reason to resign. He is choosing to hold on to the faith that his constituents will forget about it.

@BillErnestJr Believe me, I am not trying to promote a double standard - if you check out my blog at http://theapathyremedy.blogspot.com I lambasted Kwame Kilpatrick, Eliot Spitzer, and Larry Craig during their moments of shame, and I said that because of their responsibility to the people they should respect ethical behavior while in office. As a public figure, whether it is fair or unfair, people connect your personal dealings to your judgment or character as a leader. Just like Clinton, whether he is or is not a good leader is debatable, but his actions with Lewinsky will forever be remembered as an act of unfaithfulness and poor judgment.

So with Sanford, it is not only the immorality of what he did, but his lack of ability to perform in his position. Other politicians cheat. But do not abandon your post as governor without notifying a second-in-command. Do not mislead your staff on your whereabouts. Do not return and act as though you never abandoned your state. There is nothing wrong with taking a personal trip. He may have taken it for the wrong reasons. But he cannot convince me he deserves to keep his job, when he could not follow proper procedure to keep the SC Executive Branch in order in his absence. That is like a store owner just bailing out without appointing a shift manager or general manager of the store

Politics all too often attracts this type of person and when caught they should all do the honorable thing and resign, but if they were men of honor they would not find themselves in said position in the first place... I will say this: Love or hate our current President, his apparent love for and fidelity to his wife is admirable.

Whatever Clinton did, he did in the Oval Office where he could be reached in case of emergency. My issue is not that Sanford left, but that he did so in an irresponsible way. What if there was a terrorist attack, anywhere in the country, or a flood, or any other kind of problem. He jeopardised the running of his state with his irresponsibility. Aside from that his p***s is his business. He has to deal with an irate wife. But putting it before his state is an issue.

@BillErnestJr Well said my friend. If it is one thing I respect about Obama the most is his obvious love and affection for his family.

I'm not going to speculate on whether he should resign or not, but one thing is for sure: somebody needs to put a tracking device on this dude. How do you, as a governor, disappear for 5 days!? It doesn't make sense! Doesn't he have a twitter account or something? The government needs to set a mandate for him to update his twitter account every half hour. We need to know where he is and what he's doing at all times from now on. Quick trips to Argentina? This ain't supposed to be an episode of Dora the Explorer. They're talking about finding Osama when they can't find their own governor.
