The Kashmir issue is now beyond conscionable action by either India or Pakistan. On the Pakistani side is a history of lost chances to make peace and actively destabilising the state for strategic, military reasons (so abandoning the moral high-ground), while on India's side is a 60 year history of repression and violence, not including the original illegality and immorality of the takeover itself. Both countries have forfeited their rights to make claims on Kashmir and should now let the Kashmiri people decide how they want to live and whether they want to be independent or join one of the state through a plebiscite or referendum. Then we have to respect that decision. Of course India will never agree to this since Kashmir is an 'Integral part' of he union, and they know that if they allow a plebiscite there, then various groups in other states, like Orissa and Bihar, might step up activities in hopes of achieving the same thing, which would tear India apart, literally. However that is the only way to achieve a lasting peace and a just solution to the problem. Also, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq should be PM of Pakistan.
