LANDIKOTAL: Thirteen people, including three Afghan women-police and six Afghan border police were killed and more then forty others injured when a suicide bomber struck the Police check post at Torkham border inside Afghanistan on Tuesday afternoon.

An Afghan border police said that a suicide bomber in woman dress and veil entered at 12:15pm into the women police checking-room and explode himself few minutes awhile, flowed by flames and dust which gripped the fifty meters area. The suicide bomber believed to be assigned to target NATO forces present that time in the Afghan customs office at Torkham border, sources added. The incident occurred hundreds feet from the main gate of Torkham border. The high intensity explosives materials had been used in the suicide attack, Officials said. Several body parts of the deceaseds were found inside Pakistani territory, a Khasadar said to The News.

According to initial report, an Afghan police officer said to this scribe, at least thirteen people, including three Afghan women police, six border police and four civilians were killed on the spot. Forty others, including women and children were seriously injured, a rescue worker at Torkham border revealed. Eight injured persons were brought to Landikotal AHQ hospital for medical treatment where a minor girl succumbed to her injuries, Landikotal hospital sources said. Most of the injured persons had been burnt by flames that engulfed the footpath(narrow way) on which travelers cross the border. Soon after the incident Afghan and NATO forces rushed to the site and cordoned off the area. NATO and Afghan security forces gathered the body parts of the suicide bomber for investigation. A rumor of another bomb meanwhile also spread in Torkham border, which suffered the travelers on both sides of the border. Both sides of the borders authorities closed the border for three hours to avoid any further mishaps. During the NATO forces presence in the incident place NATO gunship helicopters were encircling to protect the land force from the space. It worth to mention here that Nato force once or twice in a week hold visits to Torkham border and monitor the security system.
