The American Clean Energy and Security Act passed in the House of Representatives by a narrow margin of votes, 219-212. Nonetheless, this marks a move towards making a change in America,...
Obama is opposing the tariff. Stating it would be unfair to burden other countries that are in recession.
In addition, 44 Demiocrats voted No - all from Coal states.
Your figure of $175 per family per year has a lot of dispute and the support from power companies is due to the massive lobbying campaign that resulted in their being awarded a majority of the "free" allowances.
It's nothing more than business as usual and the result will be job losses all for the smallest of temperature changes - over a CENTURY and not at all if other nations do not curb their pollution amounts.
So the question I would graciously ask now - would be - Do YOU think the Senate should STILL endorse the bill if the tariff measure is removed and would you still stick to the theory the bill will not cause manufacturers to shift operations to China nad India where LABOR is already cheaper?
Anyone who followed the debate Friday afternoon heard how shallow and weak the arguments in favor of this piece of … legislatiion … are. Statistics proving this kind of plan had not worked in Spain or Japan were undisputed. All the suppporters could do was to sputter back the normal "global warming" and "the end of the world is near" rhetoric. What passed this piece of … legisltation … in the House was not the sound arguments but the blatant arm-twisting of fence-sitting Democrats and weak0willed Republicans. Those eight - Bono Mack, Carlisle, Kirk, Lance, LoBiondo, McHugh, and Reichert - will need to be watched carefully to see what inticements the White House dangled in front of them to win their support.
In the meantime, the Republican leadership should have those eight seats moved across the aisle because these are certainly not "representatives" of the people.
