I'm very surprised. I would have expected the Chinese authorities to simply proclaim eminent domain or some such thing. The shopkeeper is lucky he wasn't killed. I think this is a tragedy, a funny funny tragedy.

I have chanced to read accounts of land acquisition for the building up of Special Economic Zones in China. Horrible accounts, I should say. Accounts, replete with tears and blood and even with tragic end of living and life. Who knows if the shopkeeper has not been killed by this time?People are under one-party rule in China and it is a communist party which considers itself omnipotent. Thanks for your presentation.
