It has now been confirmed by the NWFP Government that the deputy chief of the Taliban in Swat (Pakistan) and the dreaded militant commander, Maulana Shah Dauran has been killed in the Operation Rah-e-Rast. Dauran who was known for his fiery speeches on his illegal FM Radio Station in Swat was killed while fighting with the Pakistan Army in Shamozai area of Swat. He was second most wanted after the chief of the Swati Taliban, Maulana Fazlullah. Since Maulana Fazlullah has already fled from Swat to Waziristan or Afghanistan, the actual supreme commander of the Swat militants who was leading them on ground was Maulana Shah Dauran. His death is an extremely severe blow to the militants and a huge success for the Pakistan Army as they have been able to eliminate the leader of the insurgency in Swat. Shah Dauran had a bounty of Rs 10 million on his head. The terrorist's leader belonged to Qambar village near Mingora. He ran a Madrassa in his village and led prayers in the mosque before joining Maulana Fazlullah's radical group. Dauran was deputy head of the Swat chapter of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. He used to make speeches on an FM radio channel, often employing tough language against opponents and the government. In the past, both civil and military authorities had on a few occasions pronounced Dauran dead but he proved a great survivor despite being targeted in military operations. Intelligence sources revlealed to newspaper reporters that the body of Shah Dauran has been secretly buried by the militants in the area around Shamozai and that the agents on ground were trying to locate the body of Shah Dauran.
