The China-US military talk, which was dropped due to the US$6.5 billion arms deal between the US and Taiwan last December, was resumed on
Wednesday thanks to the Chinese government's initiative. The resumed talk will focus on the growing nuclear threat from North Korea and a series of naval maritime incidents happening in the past two months which have clouded the relationship between the two countries.

Gen. Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, said at the news conference that the two sides agreed to work together to avoid "such incidents happening again," referring to the American naval ship's sonar damaged by a Chinese submarine three weeks ago.

In May, American surveillance ships were threatened by Chinese fishing vessels during routine patrols.

China has reiterated its support for the UN sanction aiming to punish North Korea's continuous nuclear device tests, but it hasn't clearly expressed its stance on the search of Kang Nam, the North Korea vessel which is suspected to carry weapons heading for Myanmar.
