Fifty five killed in Iraq explosion

Baghdad, June 25: In Iraq, Atleast 55 persons were killed and 116 others were wounded in a bomb explosion that rocked Sadr city in eastern Baghdad on Wednesday evening.

According to an interior ministry official, a motorcycle rikshaw, loaded with explosives covered with fruits and vegetables was exploded in a busy place. Women and children were among those died in the explosion. The official said the attacker jumped off the rikshaw in the middle of the Mraidi market and made good his escape. Some of the wounded are in a critical condition and the toll may increase, police said. The attack comes nearly a week ahead of the dead line set for US combat troop’s withdrawal from Iraqi urban centres as part of a security accord between Baghdad and Washington.
