Animals are just a great gift to humanity, the lovable dog that wags it tail every time you come home, or the kitten that purrs and rubs its neck in affection against your leg when you are watching television.
What about ferrets? "They are rodents, rats, hideous creatures" one relative told me once and I laughed whole heartly then was dismayed from their lack of information on these lovable, sociable animals.
We found our ferret, Chinook, 4 years ago roaming the streets on a cold raining night not to be too sinister but it was true. We tried to get the animal off the street so it would not get hit by a car since their eye sight is not good and we fell in love with this animal immediately. Lucky for us. no one claimed him so he is now part of the family.
As we became more involved, I was surprise that ferrets are illegal in some states such as California. All the research I performed, I could not find any valid reaon either. I came across a web site and found some interesting facts:
Ferrets Are Legal in 48 States
27% of the Nation's Ferret Supplies are sold in California
80% of ferrets sold in Nevada, Oregon and Arizona are brought to California
California looses between $700,000 and $2,700,000 every year in lost sales tax revenue because of the ferret ban
Interesting, California looses roughly $700,000 in revenue and this is not explored? I challenge all animal lovers out there to make a difference when it comes to these delightful creatures. The Black-Footed ferret almost became instint because humanity's lack of concern.
The pictures and video on this site is of my Chinook. (excuse the red eye) He did not go for my throat and tried to chew on my neck and draw blood like one former co worker told me once. He is just a playful creature. Thinking of getting a pet? Consider a ferret but research them first to make sure this is the right animal for you. Unlike dogs and cats, ferrets become very attached to their human companions and they feel a sense of rejection and abandonment when pass onto one owner to another.
