Obama extends benefits to government workers engaged in same sex

Washington: US President Barack Obama has extended some benefits to government workers engaged in sex with partners of same sex, in a bid to give them greater equality. The President signed a memorandum which provide these employees limited health care and financial benefits. These re currently denied to gay couples.Mr. Joe Solmonese, President of the Human Rights Campaign said the presidential gesture was the first brick in paving a long path for gay, lesbians, bisexual and transgender Americans. The memorandum marked a historic sep towards the changes “we sought,” he said and added that many of the government’s hard working, dedicated and patriotic public servants have been denied basic rights that their colleagues enjoyed for one simple reason- the people they love are of the same sex.
