You really hit all the main points. It is definitely time that we remove religion from the equation and treat this as the civil rights issue that it is. I couldn't quite tell if you were saying that civil unions should be enough or not. It's true that legally they would afford us the legal protections we are seeking, but they still taste of separate but equal and still feel less than. However, that's likely the direction we are going in if we have any hope of federal recognition.

Thank you very much for your response! Oh no, you are definitely right about civil unions not being equal. I support gay marriage to the fullest extent, right down to the title and meaning of the title. But yeah, I do think that at least for now since the world is in such an unnecessary uproar, a civil union would have to do until people come to their senses and realize that the only ones that marriage matter to are the ones actually getting married. My best friend is gay and I told him that I would marry him and his partner, regardless of if it were recognized by the state. I just wish that "regardless" part would drop away.
