ISLAMABAD, The Taliban have claimed responsibility for two suicide blasts in northwestern Peshawar city on Tuesday and a mosque blast in Lahore on Friday, according to a DAWN NEWS TV channel report.
An explosive-laden truck hit the five-star Pearl Continental Hotel in Peshawar, the capital city of North West Frontier Province, leaving 18 people dead and scores of others injured on Tuesday.
A suicide bomber blew himself up at a mosque in Lahore, killing six persons and injuring 10 others on Friday.
According to the report, Taliban claimed responsibility for these two attacks. The attacks are construed to be retaliatory to the military operation against Taliban in Swat and other regions, say military observers.
Security forces launched a large-scale operation against Taliban militants in some parts of North West Frontier Province in late April. More than 1,400 militants have been killed in the ongoing military operation.
