Zimbabwe

In a country where Galloping inflation has turned to unimaginable levels, Ordinary Zimbabweans are finding life pretty tough. Their currency is worthless and working is useless because what they earn today will not be even worth half of what it is tomorrow.

So people have turned to a new industry. Its called the Sex for Food Industry. This is alarming in its own right, but what happens when Children start to join it? The Charity “Save the Children” reports that children as young as 12 years old are willing to sell their bodies into prostitution just to survive.

And their fee can range from a drink to even a mere packet of biscuits to even things like chips while some of the more desperate, who have lost their loved ones even allow sex and only ask for a hug in return.

It’s a pretty pathetic state of affairs, and with the forthcoming world cup in South Africa, things are only going to get worse.

Reports are emerging of Child Traffickers strengthening their presence in Zimbabwe to hop females over the border to satisfy the mass influx of tourists expected for the sporting extravaganza. And with 90% of Zimbabwe in unemployment and hunger, many may willingly cross over the border in hope of a better life and some better food and ultimately sell their happiness and freedom down the line. This could scarily include children.

Inflation kills.

AIDS is on the rise in Zimbabwe. But if this article is accurate, then they could make a killing on condom production. Don't get me wrong, I am not downplaying or ridiculing the tragedy of this situation, but this story is just beyond tragedy of commentary.

It really is beyond tragedy. But Zimbabwe is not the only place this happens. College going kids do the same thing to get through their tuition in Countries like France. I remember reading an article about it nearly a year ago. However exploiting children for such deplorable acts as such a age where they are not even mature is beyond heinous.

I don't know if it's really PC or right to equate the situation in Zimbabwe with french college students sleeping with professors for a grade, meal, tuition cut etc. Though it does ratchet up the attractiveness of becoming a college professor in France.

Well, the point was not to compare the two countries and their activities. It was merely to state facts. There is absolutely no way that that could happen! France is a developed country and Zimbabwe nearly fulfills the definition as a failed state.

or they cant afford condoms and their population doubles and it further takes em down!!!!!!!! u think these people have an awareness??

They may have basic awareness, but with the current situation and their desperate state of affairs, I don't think they would really care too much about awareness or even bother to use safer methods.

What's happening now in Zimbabwe is tragic, but let's look outside the box for a moment. If you were really hungry, would you give your body just to assuage your hunger pains? But before you answer, ask yourself: Do I REALLY know what it feels to be TRULY desperate? Let's not condemn those who sell their bodies just to survive.

You state a very valid point. Desperateness can break the human spirit and cause people to do almost ANYTHING in order to survive. Life is all about survival anyway. But Do you really think kids as young as 12 years old and who are still immature should be allowed to do such things? After all desperate people will do anything, and there are so many people who would love to find "Desperate people" and exploit them. And this is what will happen to these kids too, if something is not done.
