The US government has decided to triple the non-military aid to Pakistan to 1.5 billion dollars a year. The money could have been used to start projects to create more jobs and help the...
Alright, say Pakistan wouldn't have helped U.S when she was all mad and crazy after 9/11 (though I don't believe that Osama had anything to do with 9/11, I mean ; they live in mud houses ove there, how could they possibly plan that .... ok never mind that bit, that's a totally different discussion). So, I was saying that I personally hate Talibans and they are responsible for all the bombings taking place in Pakistan 'cause she helped the 'crazy boy U.S' in WAT, now if she hadn't then she would have been much happier now and well ... it would have been Americans who would have had to face that rage which Pakistan has to face now. Americans would have been forced to live back in stone age or mud age for that matter ... even then kitty cat you'd have said 'never mind' ... LOL, you're funny!
if it all goes to hell, nobody will give you food for gold. In a real crisis, gold is just a nice yellow metal, but you can't eat it so it basically becomes worthless.
Gold is rapidly losing its value lately. If you want to invest your money into anything buy land, as much as you possibly can if you got the money, build boarding houses, apartments and so on and rent them out to the needy, homeless people for low rent. In that way you will not only earn needed cash but at the same time when you decide to sell in ten years or so, your return could be doubled or tripled on each property. It is food for thought. Buy land, it is the safest investment you can ever make. 13/6/2009.
excellent point. We're fast returning to a world where agriculture and housing are going to become increasingly important. Investments in rentable property and in agri-business are wise. Investments in developing new eco-friendly agricultural techniques are also wise, given their importance for the future.
The United States is the most powerful and wealthiest nation in the world today, and it is only right that they use their might to help those who need help. Pakistan may be perceived as a terrorist haven, but the aid is for the economy in general -- because poverty is what makes people turn to desperate measures, like, say, joining a radical fringe group.
There are many reasons that we will never know why and what goes into who gets aid some times and who does not. I know from my own experience that our country takes care of many of us who are disabled and puts money into programs here for unemployed. Sometimes people have to move to get the most of what they want because different areas of the country do offer more benefits. Yet I am grateful for all that I am able to have because we live in this country. Jacki
what about Osama bin Laden he did that after having a wealthy family. they said he was on the govt payroll US before in Afghanistan. It just makes trouble.
That is right what you are saying I think. Sometimes they need to do something like that to get a country on our side. The US does have vast resources but not all that vast. It is a Muslim country very probably harboring terrorists with double talk and I don't think we should be bending over backwards trying to help them. I think Brad Pitt is ridiculous with their aid bit. They think they are helping though. I do not have that much respect for Angelina going around with a scarf on around countries like that.
While I think it's great that the United States is taking an interest and investing in other countries, I have to wonder what might have happened if they had devoted that $1.5 billion to building jobs and helping Pakistan grow and develop? I understand that there are concerns of the Taliban destroying efforts, but that is everywhere, and not only with the threat of the Taliban. Even Americans daily destroy efforts to build and grow, right here on our own soil.
To be honest, I am not sure where that $1.5 billion is going to come from. America's debt margin right now is well over a very staggering $1 trillion, and growing daily, with interest as well.
Does the government care about me, an American commoner? I think so. I think that my life is very blessed in spite of it all, and I can't help but think that the people of other countries are in much more need of humanitarian aid than I am. I have a store nearly on every corner, and there's never a food shortage, or a fresh water shortage here. That cannot be said for millions upon millions of the world's citizens.
Thank you for someone else being here that can say, yes times are hard on a lot of people, yet not everyone, and I know we live in a country where there is always more possibilities if you are willing really do the work to find them. Jacki

The US will just print more money. That is what it does. Gold will go up a little more and it has intrinsic value so it's not the worst investment. True, you cannot chew on a bar of gold. Land and wind power is a good place to start in my humble opinion. The aid to Pakistan, Africa, wherever, rarely seems to accomplish what the public perceives was meant to be. We cannot control it. The Japanese did a smart thing in Tanzania, instead of sending money again, they sent their own people and equipment and paved the roads which was desperately needed. Sometimes action is better.
very true. Sending aid to countries with a corrupt leadership, no structures for monitoring the flow of money and massive bureaucracies that siphon funds at every level is counter-productive. It just sustains the leadership and the vicious cycle continues. Aid programs that address issues work far better and help many more people, like the Japanese case you mentioned, or organisations like the Fulbright fellowship that give scholarships to carefully selected people for study.
If I may, latoureiffel, you might want to consider that the Japanese have more than a little bit of a vested interest when they make like the one in Tanzania. They do that to also keep their resident population low -- it's been at 120 million or so for what seems like forever .... probably 25 years or so.
They even do it with their elderly, in fact. Seriously, Japan has the fastest growing gray population of the developed countries, with Switzerland close behind (says something about countries that keep their people out of foreign conflicts, er?).
One way of dealing with that hardcore senior set is to go to other countries --the Philippines, say, or any country that's less developed than yours and will happy to let you build a huge 'Sunset Village' type invironment, espceially since you the foreign power will hire the locals to maintain these places.
It's a weird kind of foreign 'aid' I suppose, but so far as I've read, no one has aired any major complaints against the arrangement.
Good, we'll just have to START some things, then focus on the rest of the world, there's no doubt that Americans have empathy, Clinton just didn't last long enough to help the world.
I've always believed that charity begins at home. We need to focus on getting health care and other aid to the folks that are suffering in this country before trying to heal the world. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with helping any nation, but it is hard for me to feel empathy for people 30,000 miles away when the lady outside my job is begging for money to feed her kid.
@wykedengel: Yes, thats true, going to heal people outside, before looking at what the self is ailing from is hypocracy and benefits neither the outsider nor the self. Coz the self is ailing and cant keep up the good work, while the the condition of the self continues to deteriorate.
We have always been a country who has helped out every where else in detrement to our own people. The fight against terrorism should be the responsibility of every country not just one.
dear Imrankhan thanks a lot for the information has been submitted, we all hope the economy will be fine because it will affect joints other life, such as increased employment, low inflation, so the quality of life will get better, especially when supported by educational Good also that the future of developing countries like Pakistan, Indonesia and other countries does not depend anymore with western countries, the government should consider how developing countries into country that can provide loans to other countries though not in the form of money, because developing countries have human resources are abundant, and they will need a lot of labor from developing countries.
