Geithner Puts Smiley Face On Global Economy: U.S. Another Story

We're Not Smiling

Timothy Geithner, the magician and "jack of all trades, master of none," now acting as trustee for the American people on the bank bailouts, AIG foreign corporate bailout, and automakers bailouts (with California whining in the wings) recently met with Chinese officials and predicted that the global recession "seemed to be losing force."

Of course, this has come at the cost of selling off shares of U.S. major businesses and industries to the global market, in order to "stabilize" the global economy, in effect further continuing to destroy our own.

That's the downside of corporate globalization and Washington's "hands off" approaches and collusion in socializing the U.S. economy, rather than protecting American interests and effectively regulating corporate mergers, acquisitions and any "outsourced" offshore expansions.

Saving a British based insurer, AIG, and selling off parts of the automobile manufacturer which until not too recently was responsible for 3% of the United States GNP apparently is not too steep a price to pay for Mr. Geithner to continue to equalize the global scales, while those in Detroit are eating pork and beans, yet the AIG executives were entitled to stress breaks at one of California's four star resorts.

The Chinese, of course, got their bite of the apple in the reported sale of the GM Hummer Division to a Chinese concern. Apparently so did the Canadians with protection of their union Teacher's Pension and Mexico, from all reports.

This, of course, is in addition to all that labor and the export imbalance due to the Chinese providing a great deal of the manufactured goods here in the United States for one of the major retail chains, Wal-Mart, whose wealth if it were one of the countries in the now "global community" would place it fifth in GNP.

He also apparently reassured the Chinese that the debt that has been amassed during this trade in assets is fundamentally secured due to the United State's "liquid" financial markets.

It appears the liquid Mr. Geithner might be referring to would be that of mercury - "now you see it, now you don't."

So, although we may owe the Chinese government a great deal of debt on paper, exactly how DID they accumulate all that wealth to begin with?

I hope Mr. Geithner gets around to answering that question, when he has time and a break from shuffling all these country's assets around, before he eventually ends up selling off some of our prime real estate, such as the Grand Canyon or Redwood National Forest.

By the way, did I mention according to the article, Mr. Geithner's father worked in China, and is a former employee of the Ford Foundation?

Well funnily enough Ross, I agree with you in your view that the U.S. government has for the last God knows how many years been putting the interests of a privileged few before the needs and welfare of it's own people. It is a truly sad and awful thing and what they are doing now does amount to socialising the economy except under another name. Obviously I disagree with you in your view of Obama, I think he might be different but I am also an optimist. I would like to ask you what you think of U.S. foreign policy, however?

I believe and as the founders believed.....trade with all nations, alliances with none. That keeps U.S. interests actually U.S. interests, and we don't have our buildings getting bombed by Middle Easterners or anyone else that resents our presence and interference in their country's civil affairs. No one got involved in our civil war, did they?

And if China set up agribusinesses in the middle of Kansas, don't you think those Kansas farmers might want to sling a few shots at any passing rickshaws?

Ludicrous. Switzerland has the right idea, which was what our founders idea was for this nation. And Obama is just another Bush. You don't see him doing much "drawing down," but following the Bush accord he signed with Iraq, and expanding the war actually.

Delusion liberals, and Changez you seem to be one of the best.

Ross - They would never sell the Grand Canyon or Redwood National - they are landmarks silly. They'd sell Alaska - with Palin and then there would be an end to the question of whether or not Alaska should or would be harvested for oil.

Landmarks are really worth more to the oil rich potentates than more oil. They are trying to barter for the highest price for the gold mine they are sitting on. And China does not need oil either, it has enough coal and steel to soak our markets for decades.

They wouldn't sell Alaska. Are you kidding? The environmentalists would have a tizzy, you know, and their global warming scam might carry less force.

Still think the canyon and the redwoods (except to cut down mix with toxic chemicals and sell back to us for decking wood...) would not be appealing - BUT maybe Mount Rushmore could have a nice new SYMBOL carved into it instead - or just initials - CPC.

In all honesty, California and Arizona's forests have needed pruning for decades, and those wildfires have occurred and spread they way they have due to both the drought conditions, and the tree huggers agendas all these years.

The Colorado at the bottom of the Canyon has water, which they also need. And is a great tourist attraction, which is also of interest to those potentates. In fact, there is some international money I believe also involved in that lucite deck the Indians just built over the Canyon now charging $75 bucks in order to "walk the plank." As an almost native Arizonan, I was appalled at that ludicrous idea and desecration of the inherent beauty of the Canyon. And the Redwoods for the decking would probably really sell well to the Chinese, who have no problem with safety standards as was apparent with the toys delivered here.

So I think you are off the mark both of you. It won't be Alaska, but the Golden Gate, Canyon or any other "publicly" owned property, unless Russia does eventually attack Alaska due to its proximity and it becomes their property - since they are interested in amassing as much oil as possible in competition obviously with this country.

And Obama unfortunately is a "global citizen" as is apparent, and not an "American" one, whether by birth certificate, or actual, at this point, his own testimony.
