Recently, Nurse Jackie premiered on showtime to a great response. Edie Falco plays a deeply sardonic, pill popping Jackie who is outranked by the happy-to-be-here Dr. Cooper, played by Peter Facinelli. Jackie is not very physically attractive, while Cooper is much so. Jackie pulls in the audience with her struggle to remain optimistic in a lifestyle that begs to make even the most cheerful child jaded. The first episode opens with a teenager in a bad predicament while Nurse Jackie tries to get Dr. Cooper to order the right medical tools to save the child, but Cooper brushes the teens injuries off, leaving the child to die soon after as Jackie hopelessly stands by. Later Jackie confronts Cooper, and Cooper replies by unintentionally grabbing her boob (which he attests to a nervous habit). This gives a glimpse into the cruel and unusual punishment that Jackie will most likely endure throughout the rest of the season. There is a very dark element to this show that can be said to be a breath of fresh air, that we are not always as lucky to see on shows like Scrubs, or Greys Anatomy. This is a show that is not for the light hearted, but it is one that is sure to bring much enjoyable pleasure in the future. If you like Dexter, then you will most definitely love this new show sure to be a hit.
