It is the normal practice that relief work is extended on topmost priority in the aftermath of any calamity. Whenever calamity strikes, it leaves a trail of destruction behind, homes get destroyed, lives are lost and those affected just do not know how to come to terms with reality. Politicians should not try to exploit these situations and go on accusation sprees but put their heads together to reduce the sufferings of the helpless ones. In the case of AILA that struck the Sunderbans volunteers have chipped in to mitigate the sufferings of the affected. The official machinery is supplying foodstuff in bulk that have long shelf life like puffed rice, jaggery and drinking water. Simultaneously, groups of citizens of Kolkata have joined hands to collect biscuits, baby food, clothes and medicines for distribution which are also necessities. They are doing a commendable job and deserve full credit. But there is never enough to meet all the needs.
