Air France plane goes missing

Rio de Janeiro : Brazil | 6 months ago
Views: 1,708

It was a passenger plane A-330 of Air France and was on its way from Rio-de-Janeiro to Charles de Gaulle airport in France. Suddenly, shortly after takeoff, the ground lost contact with it and the authorities fear the worst. Search and rescue teams have already begun work to locate it. Preliminary investigations have ruled out highjack. It was probably hit by lightning. There were 228 passengers and crew on board. There have been at least 5 earlier cases involving Air France aeroplanes where several lives were lost. When this is read in conjunction with the ill-treating of Indian passengers on Air France flights recently reported, it paints a not too rosy picture of the international airline.

I don't think the ill-treating of passengers has anything to do with the plane going down??

This is terrible news. Hopefully they can locate the plane with survivors as soon as possible. I've heard that there was a vicious storm going on that might have played some sort of role in this occurrence. Please keep us updated as more information becomes available.

Pilots from Brazil's largest airline have spotted what appeared to be fire in the Atlantic ocean, along the route of an Air France jet that disappeared more than 24 hours ago.

The search for the missing aircraft continued on Tuesday, with Brazilian aircraft equipped with sensors sweeping a part of the Atlantic Ocean where the aircraft is thought to have disappeared.

Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay said that so far the only clue as to what had happened to the Air France jet was the apparent sighting of a fire by the Brazilian airline.

"They say pilots on board a plane flying in the opposite direction claim they saw orange spots in the ocean," he reported.

Jose Alencar, Brazil's vice president, confirmed the reports.

"A TAM airlines plane from Brazil supposedly saw something on fire in the Atlantic Ocean. This was an aeroplane that landed today," Alencar said on Monday.

The Air France jet, an Airbus A330-200, was carrying 228 people from at least 32 countries on its route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris when it is believed to have vanished in a severe thunderstorm on Monday.

Authorities said they are still trying to determine what caused the accident, but that they fear there is no chance of finding survivors.

This is horrible: How can a whole plane just disappear without radio contact and straight off the radar. There might be more to this story than meets the eye.

The wreckage of the above flight has been found by the Brazillian airforce floating in the Atlantic, 600 kilometers out to sea. Survivors at this point there are none and they may need to send divers to look for
the plane at the floor of the sea which is very deep. 3/6/2009.
