Indonesia Found the biggest underwater volcano mount in Sumatera, Can cause a Tsunami.

A massive underwater mountain discovered off the Indonesian island of Sumatera earlier in this month is the the biggest Indonesian danger volcano ever found. ''The mountain which was discovered about 330 kilometers west Bengkulu city Sumatera during research to map the sea bed’s seismic fault lines is 4,600 meters hight and have 50 kilometers diameter and its summit is 1,300 below the surface is a giant mount volcano and the biggest mount volcanoe ever found in Indonesia, '' said Chairman of Bandung Geologist offices Surono in Bandung said, today.

Surono said, this newly volcano mount could be a volcano with potentially catastrophic power. The ultra deep geological survey was conducted with the help of French scientists, United States Scientist, and other international geophysical company CGGVeritas

''If we compare to Kerinci mount in Sumatera only 3,800 meters hight and Semeru mount in Java island only 3,600 meters hight. So, this newly volcano mount about more than 4,600 meters hight. If we concluded that the newly this mounts is a Volcano mount, that Mount can be the highest and the biggest volcano mount in Indonesia as we ever found,'' Surono added.

''If this newly mount is a volcano mount, It is a dangerous mount, because if this mount will be erupt, could make a big impact to peoples who stay in the mount location areas, because the erupted the mount will caused tsunami or epicenter,'' he said.

''But the Scientist will explore more to the newly mount, this mount is a dangerous mount can cause a tsunami if they will erupt, or just a giant mount which still sleep on their places,'' he added.

”We have to conduct further investigations," said Director of Natural Resources of Indonesian Research Institution of BPPT Yusuf Surachman in Jakarta said.

He didn’t sure about if the new volcano could only be described as a "sea mount" of the sort commonly found around the world. "Whether it's active or dangerous, who knows?" he added.

So far scientists predicted that the lithospheric plate boundaries have a massive energy. But unless the research done, they still believe the volcano not a factor caused tsunami or epicenter.

But with this discovery the scientist hope to gain a clearer picture of undersea lithospheric plate boundaries and seafloor displacement in the area, that epicenter of catastrophic Asian quake and tsunami of 2004.

In across Asia tsunami killed more than 220,000, including 168,000 people in Aceh province on the northern tip of Sumatera. Indonesia is on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.

The team of scientists who found the newly mount are from the Agency For the Assessment and Application Technology (BPPT), The Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI), The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, and France-based CGGVeritas and Institute de Physique du Globe (IPG) located the volcano under the Sunda Trench, west of Sumatra.

It seems gigantic! Hopefully with more research and investigation, they can find out as much information as possible. With more information, at least they can determine how threatening it is and further develop safety procedures accordingly.
