Are the Australians Racist ?

Recent attacks on Indian students in Melbourne, Australia has raised the eyebrows of all the people in India and all over the world to think about the Racism prevaling in Australia and has put an question mark on the Australins faces that Are they Racist ?.

It doesn't take a moment to decide about the question, of course they are racist and the meaningfull example of the same is still fresh on the mind of Indians , what happned when the Indian Cricket team went their on tour.

It clearly shows that Australins cannot swalow the success of the non white people in any field , thou it be education or the sports or in amy other field. They fear that these non-white people will take away their glory which they have inherted by the way of colonialism. Its not only Australia , but most of white-people nations are still facing Racism in their minds. Its not single incident,we have seen the same thing in USA, UK and other countries. Its hard for them to accept that Indian born child can win the spelling Bee contest.

It was right on the part of Mr. Amitabh Bacchan , great actor of Indian cinema , who was offered a doctorate degree from the same University where the attack on the Indian students took place , decided not to take the honour due to this incident. Still they live in era where there mind set is to rule the non- white people , but that doesnot become possible they take out their anguish in the form of attacks.

Nobody need to answer the above question.

Your post is well written and many points are taken... though In All nations there are racists, even in the Eastern Nations you speak proudly of, though more so in religion than in color. It is just unfortunate that ALL People can not see past their predjudices.

Lot of Australians are racist but the majority are not. The racist ones
are mainly the second generation offspring of foreign migrants in the country. You will also find that most Australian Aborigines are very racist at that blaming everybody for their problems exept themselves. 31/5/2009.

I will not attribute racism to an entire nation of people and I don't think that is what you are doing in your story but you raise some interesting points that are hard for some to swallow. When you are raised to believe the lack of pigment in your skin color entitles you to superiority by birthright, you are a racist. There are many Whites who believe this but I am thankful that in America that mindset is becoming more unpopular with each generation as cultures mix and people are able to be raised among diverse groups of people. It is a "common survivalist" mindset that allowed the US to elect a president of African American descent after experiencing a severe economimc downturn. I personally had to work hard at improving my attitude toward Austrailians after the '96 Olympics in Atlanta. Many Austrailians traveled here as part of a committee hosting the 2000 Olympics. Everyone I met from there treated Blacks in Atlanta like they were diseased, ignorant and unworthy. It hurt their image in my eyes but instead of blaming an entire continent I reached out to people from Austrailia when I did meet them to discuss the issue whenever I could. I also tried to research more of their history to try to figure out where this mindset may have originated. Countries are becoming more economiclly dependent on each other resulting in a global economy and the internet is allowing people to erase borders to find common ground. Let's hope that as this develops there will be no place on this planet in the future for racism and the superiority mindset.

Atlstoryteller, you have some interesting points and what you say is true
but even I have experienced it myself. Although I grew up in Australia from ten years of age and I consider myself as an Australian because even
my education is Australian I experienced a lot of hate from people who I don't know. For instance, some idiot would ask where you come from? I was
born in Yugoslavia. They yell out go back you Dago bastard. I tell them,
excuse me but the word Dago was a slang that was applied to the Italian Migrants and I'm not one of those. I wouldn't know what my country of birth looks like anymore, nobody there would know me, nor I
them and I don't have anything to go back to. I'm an Australian from Migrant parents so what are they talking about? What these kinds of people should remember is that Australia is a multicultural country and
is tolerant of all races regardless of color or creed. Except for a few
bad eggs as I call them it's a wonderful country to be proud of. 1/6/2009.
