Nature fenomena has just happen in Indonesia. A massive underwater mountain discovered off the Indonesian island of Sumatera earlier in this month. The mountain which was discovered about 330 kilometres west Bengkulu city Sumatera during research to map the sea bed’s seismic fault lines .

Scientist said its could be a volcano with potentially catastrophic power. The ultra deep geological survey was conducted with the help of French scientists and international geophysical company CGGVeritas The mountain have cone-shape in about 4,600 metres high, and 50 kilometres diameter, and its summit is 1,300 metres below the surface.

Local media site reported that it looks like a volcano because of its conical shape but it might not be. ”We have to conduct further investigations," said Indonesian government marine geologist Yusuf Surachman.

He didn’t sure about if the new volcano could only be described as a "seamount" of the sort commonly found around the world. "Whether it's active or dangerous, who knows?" he added.

So far scientists predicted that the lithospheric plate boundaries have a massive energy. But unless the research done, they still believe the volcano not a factor caused tsunami or epicentre.

But with this discovery the scientist hope to gain a clearer picture of undersea lithospheric plate boundaries and seafloor displacement in the area, that epicentre of catastrophic Asian quake and tsunami of 2004.

In across Asia tsunami killed more than 220,000, including 168,000 people in Aceh province on the northern tip of Sumatera. Indonesia is on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.

By the numbers given in the article, whatever it is, it's absolutely gigantic! 50km diameter!? Hopefully it's just a mountain and not a volcano. As you mentioned, there have already been too many natural disasters in Asia. Please keep us updated as more information is revealed.
