After AIADMK chief Jayalalitha, it is now the turn of Telugu Desam Party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu to raise a finger of suspection against the possible mischief with Electornic Voting Machines (EVMs). He has openly came out suspecting faulty Electronic Voting Machines for his party’s defeat in the recent elections.

He joined with many other parties in the country to prefer the age-old ballot paper be continued. While speaking at the valedictory of two-day party annual conclave `Mahanadu’ in Hyderabad, he gave enough hints that the EVMs were not above suspicion in addition to the split in the anti-government votes by Praja Rajyam besides other reasons.

“We received complaints from several places about malfunctioning of EVMs. K.E. Krishnamurthy called up from Dhone and said that faulty EVM stopped polling for three hours. Many voters had to return dejected,” he alleged.

Chandrababu Naidu cited an AIADMK complaint to the Election Commission alleging rigging in the recent elections due to EVMs and demanded reversion to the ballot paper. Jayalalithaa has been arguing against the EVMs and referred to some developed countries reverting to ballot paper after they found out that EVMs were being manipulated.

“The AIADMK chief had also lodged a complaint against EVMs. There is demand for reverting to ballot paper,” he said. (EOM)

Problem with ballot papers, people could take a dozen of them and to stack the ballots they use different names even recently dead relatives and names of dead babies. They hand them in and the candidate they votes for wins hands down. In the provinces around here the candidates pass out
envelopes full of money to the voters, and the one who gives out most money wins office. An automated counting system would do away with all that and people should be allowed to vote for who they want without being
coaxed and enticed with tax payer's money. 29/5/2009.
