Austrian Police attend injured in Vienna

A riot broke out in a Sikh Temple in Vienna, Austria today as members

of one "sect" attacked 2 preachers and followers of another branch of

the Religion. 16 people including the two Preachers were injured, 6 of

these seriously. Although it has not been ascertained as yet, it is possible

the "ceremonial" Kirpans or "daggers" were used along with a pistol.

The scuffle broke out over the use of a "ceremonial shawl" that the other

sect took umbrage too! 6 men were arrested.

This melee ended up causing a further fracas half a world away in Northern

India where the Sikhs are a minority amongst the predominately Hindu

population. Here. in Canada, I shudder still when remembering the many

lives lost in the Air India crash that "zealots" of this otherwise fine

Religion perpetrated on many innocents!

a sad thing to happen as otherwise sikhs are very peace loving people. I also would like to thank you for your imagination...I mean to say the way you link up this event with incidents in Canada and India.

We have a LARGE community of Sikhs here in British Columbia that go
back 100 years. A large Punjabi community well integrated into our
society. Sadly, some of the "Politic" from the old country has caused
divisions here as well. There has also been a generation of late that
has become quite "gang" oriented with quite a few deaths.
