Nearly 200mm of rain has fallen isolating a family at their home off the north coast of NSW today.
A distressed mother called an ambulance frantic over her infant son and his respiratory condition.
After the extreme weather conditions prevented any kind of service, the mother took matters into her own hands and pulled her two year old and infant through the high waters.
The water level was so high it was later told that a leech had attached itself to the toddlers eyelid.
Three hours later and ambulance staff say the brave mum deserves some kind of reward for her bravery in a time of crisis.
The family are in a stable conditon and were taken to Tweed Heads this afternoon.
