Everybody has probably heard of Obama Girl. But maybe you don't know the story of how she got famous. (I didn't.)
At the time she appeared, Obama was just one of many candidates. The owner of a political satire website decided to make a funny video. Somebody at the site wrote lyrics to a song "Crush on Obama". Then they looked online and found a model, Amber Lee Ettinger, to dance to it. They shot the video in about 6 hours, Amber says, and put it on YouTube. Nobody expected much of a reaction.
The song ended up getting 6 million hits. No one knows how much it effected the election.
So that's the story.
This is Ettinger being interviewed by Bill O'Reilly on Fox News, That's the more interesting video, if you ask me. O'Reilly is one of Fox News' right-wing attack dogs. He spends the whole interview bating her, trying to make her look bad. But I think it completely fails.
There's something very modern about her. She's famous for her impact on an election, but she doesn't have strong political opinions. She just got hired to make videos. She might just as easily have become McCain girl -- eww.
O'Reilly wants to imply that she cheapened the election campaign. She just laughs that off very sexily.
*shrug* What can we say about these modern celebrities?
