People making circles are many in downtown of Antananarivo, the Capital City of Madagascar. Malagasy people are so curious that they will gather around any situation: accidents, crazy people, drunken men, ...

One day, a friend and I were hanging out in Analakely and we saw again a group of people gathering. We came closer to watch and here is what we saw: a very young guy with a little snake (alive) in his hands. I don’t really know about the snake show because we missed the first part. Oh yes, it was a show or a kind of circus if you want it. After hiding the little snake in his coat on the ground, he started a new performance.

While taking a little break, he took off his hat and collected money from the public. Too cute.

As you may have read my article entitled “ All along the street “, I talked about people making a circle watching something. I thought it was an accident, in fact it was a fortune teller. Today, Andry and I were hanging out in Analakely ...

I guess it's as funny as what happened once in the Queens Street Mall, in
Brisbane, Australia. A student sat up a mat one Saturday night and started juggling five machete's, he had them spinning around and around in the air until he tried to catch them. He managed to catch one by the blade, the next one cut off three of his fingers and only left the forefinger and thumb on his right hand. Blood was everywhere and he had to be whisked off to hospital by ambulance but they couldn't save his fingers and he never juggled again. 21/5/2009.

    Hi Mllovric,
    Thanks for the comment.
    Poor guy!
Huh... a funny thing with the lil guy in my story. He wanted to put the lil snake in his pants but he quickly forgot this plan cuz he had been bitten. Fortunately, snakes are not poisonous here in Madagascar.

Our world must be a very small place indeed, and members of our (human) species similar in more ways than one from Antananarivo, Brisbane to Nairobi.... The streets of downtown Nairobi are notorious for 'curious onlookers' who will mill around any 'interesting' inicident from Antananarivo-like street acrobats, street preachers, herbal medicinemen (commonly reffered to as 'Waganga' in Kiswahili), street hawkers, open-air casinos and yes, accidents too. Many Nairobians were not suprised recently when the Environment Ministry slapped a ban on street preachers in a strange move to curb the noise pollution in the city. I feel sorry though for our ametuer knife-juggler in Mllovric's comment who only ended up chopping off his three fingers for all his troubles... Not funny at all!!

    Hi DeStefano,

Your comment is very interesting. Now, I feel that we share the same experiences and lives despite the distance between our countries.

    Thanks!
