It would have been an amazing sight. A sight most prized by those who simply love the Minis. The scene was exhilarating for many when thousands of Mini enthusiasts took to the roads to celebrate the 50th anniversary. More than 2,500 brightly colored Minis made the pilgrimage to the coast in London to Brighton run.
This annual run of Minis is now in its 46th year but this year was extra special for both the organizers as well as the participants. The year 2009 marks the 50th year since the first Mini rolled out of factory production line. The annual run was organized by the London and Surrey Mini Owners Club. It is one of the largest single-manufacturer car shows in the world and attracts around 2500 Minis every year.
The owners proudly showed off their cars in what seemed like a history lesson of the classic car. The Minis became really famous after the 1969 film, ‘The Italian Job’ starring Michael Caine. The annual run displayed all models from classics to variants to the new BMW Minis.
In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary, the first 51 Minis to leave London represented each year of production from 1950 to 2009. They left the park in a chronological production year order. An attempt to make a world record for the longest parade of Minis was also made on the occasion.
