Sunday, October 26, 2008 I'm Ashamed Of You Prof. Micheal Eric Dyson

I was listening to the news over the car radio today as my wife Jan and I rode around running our list of weekend errands. The weather was a strange one today but nothing will out do the sublime ignorance that I heard come from the mouths of one of the most passionate orator in the cause of urban underdevelopment. His exact words were "...even the Ku Klux Klan had a point, there was some black folk that were out of line..." yeah for those readers who may be familiar with this college professor and author I already can imagine you wondering if maybe I've taken his statement out of context, I wish such a thing was possible but it isn't.

I live in a suburb of Detroit and get the basic Detroit radio stations, well while listening today Frankie Darcell, the disk jockey on this particular station announced that her guest today would be prof. Eric Micheal Dyson and he's promoting a new book he's written titled, 'Is Bill Cosby Right Or Has The Black Middle Class Lost Their Mind's'. And don't quote me on the title because I was in the car and could not copy this word for word but I listened very attentively and I not only heard him but I also understood his measure even while in comfortable disagreement with it.

The Professor has written several very popular and controversial books that has stirred and generated young minds to ponder and grow. An audience that has forever felt forgotten found a personal friend in him merely from the verbal connection demonstrated through the words of his books. But readers, this time the professor is wrong. In even using such a statement, doesn't he realise that he is giving creedence to their savagery, hate, and unforgivable crimes against humanity. I could not believe that I heard him say such a thing. And all of this just to prove his point that he doesn't think that Bill Cosby was right. I'm a lover of debates, and there are many styles and convincing personalities but the greatest of all talents is the ability to understand.

If anyone had really paid true attention and understood the speech then (Senator Barack Obama) gave on race, he said in so many elequent words that if you take the time to view life outside of your shoes and view life from the shoes of your neighbor, even your adversary you'll soon realize that everyone is right. Everyone didn't grow up with the same family, finantial, educational, social, cultural, and psychological dynamics. Which means one cannot expect the same reaction or decision from two or more people regardless of how similar the incidents were. So how can Bill Cosby be wrong when he's guilty of nothing unlawful. Bill's view is simply yes, black folks history in the United States has been very troubled but listen my grand children our ancesters have opened some doors for us, many have lost their lives for these doors to be opened...let us take advantage of them so that we may open more.

While his critics argue that much more is owed, this just simply 'ain't' enough (pun intended). So clearly both are right. I have to agree with the Senator there, but the true struggle will be in trying to influence this new generation to begin taking advantage of these limited resources.

But when it comes to the Ku Klux Klan, yes they were wrong on every count and no they never had a point. It wouldn't make any difference how out of line you say blacks were, The Klan were criminals, and their crimes were not only against man (if it could be any worse) but against humanity. Our constitution never supported such an assembly and I'm ashamed that The Professor has.

I'm D. M. Hodge and I approve this message.
