Deputy Conservator of forest Ambadi Madhava supervised the operation. The captured elephant is shifted to Moorkal forest in Madikeri district.
Mr. Madhava said on Saturday that they have permission to capture one more rogue elephant. They had put the camp in Kerodi to capture rouge elephants on Monday. According to Madhava, the rouge elephant was spotted in Suggikatti near Iguru in Sakleshpur Taluk at 11 am on Friday. Then an anesthetic injection was shot at the elephant from a distance of 53 meters. Even after shooting the anesthetic injection, the elephant ran for a distance of 5 km. this created panic among forest department staff as the injection would produce heat in the elephant that had to be cooled by pouring water on it besides giving another injection to come out of its anesthetic state. Then they chased the elephant with 3 trained elephants. The rouge elephant passed through plantain, coffee, arecanut farm lands and also into the forest. Finally it fell unconscious near Hadya village.
Then with the help of villagers, forest department staff poured several pots of water on the elephant, tied its 4 legs separately with specially made ropes. Injection was also given to awaken the elephant. Then the 5 trained elephants took position to tame the rogue elephant. They brought the rogue elephant to the village where a Lorry was kept to take the rouge elephant to Madikeri. When the rogue elephant refused to walk into the lorry, it was Abhimanyu that gave three punches to rouge elephant and saw to it that it walked into the Lorry where a specially made cage was kept.
