Getting angry is not unusual, nothing out of the ordinary, and definitely not something bizarre that we experience once in a blue moon. I personally believe, the way things have been going for the last two decades ,we as human have grown more and more angry thanks to all kinds of destruction, violence, sufferings and stressors surrounding us.
Last year, a study was conducted by the Mental Health Foundation which found that 1 in 4 Britons is battling anger problem. However, when I first read about a survey conducted in Europe to find out which nation is the angriest, I felt curious only to know which nation qualifies for the title and also, what are those things that generally tick off people of different nations?
According to a survey which was commissioned by Paul Moreton, head of TV comedy channel GOLD, Britons came out to be the angriest of all the nations participating in the survey. Around 6,000 people from Germany, France, Britain, Spain, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Norway and Denmark took part in the survey.
The survey revealed that Britons get angry more than anyone else in Europe. They fly into rage an average of 4 times a day while Italians got angry 3 and a half times a day and the French 3 times. People living in more tranquil Sweden, Denmark and Norway said they got angry just once every 5 days.
Looking in to what things tick off the people of these nations most frequently, almost half of Britons at 48 percent said queue jumpers made them angry. Traffic jams infuriated 43 percent while rude service in shops, foreign call centers and having to deal with ill-mannered neighbors also got more than a third of Britons hot under the collar.
Also, 36 percent Britons said they got enraged by racist and bigoted behavior and 34 percent cannot tolerate erratic driving. Another 33 percent said people swearing out loud in public made them angry. On the other hand, the otherwise passionate Italians were mostly annoyed by bad driving and the French just couldn’t deal with sloppy service in restaurants. Scandinavians said their biggest gripe was when people mocked their counties.
I would love to see a survey being conducted on Asian countries revealing issues which make the Asian people furious. We have diverse cultures in Asia and I am sure some really exciting findings related to each country’s specific behavior to certain issues and tolerance level would be quite interesting to know. But for a first, how about finding out what gets you red with anger in daily life, eh?
