Pyŏngyang: North Korea repeated vows to strengthen its nuclear deterrent as a US special envoy toured the region to try to restart disarmament talks.

"It is clear there is no change in the US hostile policy towards North Korea," a foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement on the official Korean Central News Agency.

"As we have already stated, we will strengthen our nuclear deterrent."
