Someone has at last had the guts to take a firm stand against the sudden strike by Doctors of Bangalore – they wanted more allowances and struck work causing inconvenience to hundreds of patients. Strike by doctors is not new – what is new is the stand taken by the Karnataka High Court. It has hauled up both the striking doctors as well as the Government. If such wakeup calls are more frequent, the horrible method of doctors striking work to press for their demands might stop. Such actions on their part throw the whole of society into turmoil – the ill travel long distances to come to the Government hospitals for free treatments but are stranded in large cities because the doctors are on strike. The service that medics provide is a noble one – they have to work to bring the near dead to life, not the other way. The strictures of the honorable High Court would go a long way into ensuring that strikes are not resorted to at any minor pretext.
