War on Terror - Pakistan's Story

Pakistan is serving the humanity at large Braving the uncertainty of the present day world, Pakistan is constantly working for a secure and safe world. Pakistan was not responsible in any manner for the insecurity of the world that it has experienced since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States of America. Afterwards the world became a place looking around with a suspicion for a handiwork of terror. The world pointed its finger at Afghanistan the haven for al-Qaeda for the terror attacks of 9/11. Afghanistan invited the world rage by refusing to handover the masterminds of terror attacks for trial. The allied forces came to fight Afghanistan to bring the international terrorists to book to secure the future world from similar likely atrocities. Pakistan joined the Allied Forces by sharing intelligence and extending logistic assistance in their fight against terror. The target allegedly changed its location from Afghanistan to the border areas of Pakistan. The story does not end here. Instead, here starts a brand new story, the story of fight against terrorists inside Pakistan for its role in war against terrorists in Afghanistan and inflicting great losses on them. Pakistan has large mountainous and difficult to guard borders with Afghanistan. Traditionally, the people on the two sides of the borders had blood relations on both sides of the border because of the Pashtoon ethnic unity. The families did not feel the divide of the international border. Many of the foreign allies of the Taliban who fought the Soviet invasion and defeated the aggressor had been married here in the border areas of Pakistan. They had been frequenting the area during the times of war. Now they faced a new war, which had turned against them because of their links with the terrorist attacks in the United States. Now Pakistan was fighting the past allies to make the world a safer place. This was a difficult war as there was no imminent danger to Pakistan from these elements. The war on terror was initiated by us as she had been targeted on 9/11. The great Britain became its prime ally in this war besides the world nations. Pakistan joined them in this war and became a target of those opposed to the Allied Forces. As a frontline state against the war on terror, it has rendered great sacrifices in terms of collateral damage and economic losses. The collateral damages include both losses of men of forces and civilian population. The good work of fighting terrorism remains Pakistan's topmost priority whether it is adequately helped by the world community or not. Pakistan needs to be equipped with latest weapons and gadgets to be able to fight effectively the menace that threatens the peace on the only known inhabited planet of the entire universe.

Danial, Excellent reporting. Iwill like to add: During congressional hearings on Obama administration's foreign policy, the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said what no other US politician has ever dared to.She acknowledged that in the wake of conflict with Soviet Union, the US had funded the elements now forming Taliban and then abandoned Pakistan, leaving the country to deal with what plagues it today. The Taliban are a direct product of the US-led proxy war against Soviets in Afghanistan. Here is a link to more on what she exactly said "/s/event-3128841/aHR0cDovL293Lmx5LzNXNDI= " WASHINGTON: Two days of continuous congressional hearings on the Obama administration’s foreign policy brought a rare concession from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who acknowledged that the United States too had a share in creating the problem that plagues Pakistan today. In an appearance before a subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee on Thursday, Mrs Clinton explained how the militancy in Pakistan was linked to the US-backed proxy war against the Soviets in Afghanistan. ‘We can point fingers at the Pakistanis. I did some yesterday frankly. And it’s merited because we are wondering why they just don’t go out there and deal with these people,’ said Mrs Clinton while referring to an earlier hearing in which she said that Pakistan posed a ‘mortal threat’ to the world.‘But the problems we face now to some extent we have to take responsibility for, having contributed to it. We also have a history of kind of moving in and out of Pakistan,’ she said.‘Let’s remember here… the people we are fighting today we funded them twenty years ago… and we did it because we were locked in a struggle with the Soviet Union.’‘They invaded Afghanistan… and we did not want to see them control Central Asia and we went to work… and it was President Reagan in partnership with Congress led by Democrats who said you know what it sounds like a pretty good idea… let’s deal with the ISI and the Pakistan military and let’s go recruit these mujahideen.’‘And great, let them come from Saudi Arabia and other countries, importing their Wahabi brand of Islam so that we can go beat the Soviet Union.’‘And guess what … they (Soviets) retreated … they lost billions of dollars and it led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.’‘So there is a very strong argument which is… it wasn’t a bad investment in terms of Soviet Union but let’s be careful with what we sow… because we will harvest.’‘So we then left Pakistan … We said okay fine you deal with the Stingers that we left all over your country… you deal with the mines that are along the border and… by the way we don’t want to have anything to do with you… in fact we’re sanctioning you… So we stopped dealing with the Pakistani military and with ISI and we now are making up for a lot of lost time.’

Pakistan has suffered huge loses in the war on terror...and still there is no appreciation from the west. How can we will win the war on terror if we will have no mutual respect with the USA..Our brave army officials have requested new equipment to fight terrorism but was refused and gave the reason that it can be used against india..without trust how we can win the war on terror..

Nationalism is good and it does not serve any good if it blinds us. The pro-active role of the ISI has always been marked with reservation by the international communities. People in every country suffer mainly for the decisions they take and cannot/do not take.Democracy must be restored in every region of the globe and exercises of the USA despite limitations of targeting sectarian interests in a good number of cases should be welcome. But people must have continuous urge for democratic set up of the government unless which best sons of the soil will be handicapped while rendering services for the people of the region and of the globe. Terrorism, in spite of the best efforts exercised, cannot be sent to the final cemetery unless democratic values and practices are accepted widely and honored duly by the larger section of the socially active people. Till then we shall have to lament for the collateral losses in the form of life and property. Never mind, dear friend, I feel your agony and I hope things will be set right with our sustained endeavors.
