Serving In Mission Gives Help to Children in India Slum Areas

By Success Kanayo Uchime

Serving In Mission (SIM) is really doing great work among the children who leave in slum areas in India. It's doing everything possible to ensure that these kids who have made railway lines and stations their homes are resettled and given a new lease of life.

In a statement the organization said this has become necessary as a result the great popularity and success of the recent film Slumdog Millionaire adding that many more people are now aware of the plight of children who live on the streets of India.

It stated: “SIM has been working in slum areas and on railway platforms to provide holistic help to children who call these areas "home."

According to the statement those working closely with one particular project believe that the key to transforming these children's lives is to transform their minds and hearts.

“They work to provide intellectual and spiritual education, counseling, medical assistance, feeding programs, and vocational training and discipleship to those who are unable to attend school.”

It added that the goal of the project is to see the lives of these children transformed and also for them to experience freedom from the cycle of poverty, so that they might ultimately become productive citizens of India.

It further said that there have been many highlights over the last year and that an older son paid the tuition for his younger siblings to continue in the education program after his mother had removed them because she did not want to pay.

“An unborn baby was saved because of medical assistance that was given to a mother. A mentally handicapped girl was rescued after being abandoned at the train station and then sold off to someone else. A five-day Winter Camp for the railway station boys was held in a village where they studied, worked, had fun times together bonding as a group, and most importantly, experienced what life could be like away from the railway platform,” the statement also said..

SIM noted that just recently, three boys from the group decided to rent and furnish a room so that they can live away from the station and that progress is being made toward changing these children's lives for eternity. “Will you partner with us and make a difference in these children's lives through your prayers and financial gifts?”
