The music game debate

Admit it. Whether or not you have play videogames you have played this game above. It could have been at a party with some friends or maybe just cause you've always dreamed of being a rockstar. Everyone has had that dream. To be a rockstar with cheering fans except without the reprecussions of STDs, drug use and staring in a reality TV show.

I digress...everyone has played these games. But lately debates have flared up about how long the music game franchises can go. We are already at Guitar Hero 4 and Rock Band 2. We have band stand alone games (Metallica, Aerosmith, AC/DC and Beatles). There have been numerous karaoke games and Rock Revolution the lame persons Guitar Hero. And of course Wii Music...but I wont talk about that.

Anyway there have been plenty of these games already and one has to ask how long can this possibly go on for? Will the market ever dry up?

In my opinon I don't think the market will ever dry up. If Wii Play, Wii Sports and the Wii in general are selling as well as it is in the casual market, then these games will last forever. They introduce kids and adults alike to new and old songs and opens them up to new genres. These games are needed to keep old music alive. Eventually cassetes and CD's will phase out. Itunes and Ipods continue to grow with music and thusly some of these older bands will be buried deep within the music library. Eventually everyone except old timers will forget bands like Rush, Led Zepplin, AC/DC, Pink Floyd and The Beatles. Its starting to happen already. Sure everyone has probably hurd of the Beatles but I have had people ask me "Who are..." for a lot of the other old classical bands.

And that's what these games are for. They help explode onto the masses the greatness that is these bands. And thats why we need these games.

These games will stay around for a long time to come. Or at least that is my hope.
