Obama learns to bat

U.S. President Barack Obama had a busy schedule at last weekend's Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, and even learned how to 'bat in his crease'.

He carried a message that America is ready to change, suggested that U.S. policy on Cuba is out of date and needs an overhaul and appeared to mend fences with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who has been one of Washington's most vocal critics.

But one of Obama's more memorable encounters had nothing to do with hemispheric politics.

At the Trinidad Hilton where Obama was staying, he met the world's greatest cricketer, Trinidad and Tobago's own Brian Lara and Lara's daughter, Sydney. The private meeting happened Sunday, according to Ali Khan, the hotel's general manager.

Lara presented the American leader with an autographed cricket bat, then showed him how to use it in defence and attack.

And the international cricket icon showed Obama that in politics as well as cricket, the secret to success is to always bat inside one's crease.
