Mugabe speeks during the 2008 elections

How can a country that has been ruled under oppression continue to escape responsibility? How can the African Union not strongly condemn the dispicable acts of Mugabe? How can they not act on them? The latest twist of the farce is that Mbeki - a president of a country for very long ruled under oppression of apartheid - claims the situation in Zimbabwe is stable. That is an hilarious statement. How can anyone claim that a land is stable when the election results for a an election over two weeeks ago is yet to be presented? Well honestly we have to give him we have other examples. Does the battle betwqeen Gore and Bush ring a bell? Maybe the issue was the hole cards in Zimbabwe too? Where is the "right' Supreme Court when we need it. ;-)

We should as I have said multiple times before, start to ask ourselves why the global society is paralyzed when it comes to ZImbabwe. My view is clear - hypocracy at it's best. Let us await the upcoming twists of this comedy. They will most likely be very entertaining.

I completely agree with you. It for sure is a farce, a comedy. A film writer couldn't have made a worse plot. The paralyzation of the global society when it comes to most African affairs have many angles. One of the more obvious ones is the bad consciousness of especially Europe but also the US due to the slavery. History tells us that we have done a lot of damage in that continent and that we bear the responsibility of many of the issues now being played.

I will actually draw an analogy to Iraq. The moment you f*** up a country or continent the responsible nation or alliance are responsible to fix the issue, rebuild it and reinstate the sovereignty . You clean up after yourself. All the time.

I doubt that will happen here though. The most amazing fact in all this is, as you said, that Mbeki - the president of a country with a very dark history - supports a nation (or let us be honest a dictator) that has brutalized a country and performed a genocide that is remarkable on all it's levels. A friend who have been living there for awhile told me about the astonishing calm it is in Zimbabwe in general. When he was there news papers were writing "critical" articles and no violence was insight. This is something everyone with some insight how the former Soviet Union not to mention brutal history of Peru. People disappeared. Vanished without a trace.

This is still going on, but the world choose to not see it. Depressing.

So true. The inheritage form the colonization and slavery keeps haunting not only the African continent but also Europe and the US. It seems as if we cannot overcome the bad consciousness of our mistakes and in those case turn to running away with our tails behind our legs. It takes guts!

It would for sure be nice with some more courage from our international leaders. It seems as if many of the leaders around the world these days are fleeing their responsibility as you said. There is a quote from Kierkegaard that is quite right on point here:

"Do dare is to loose control for a bit, not to dare is to loose yourself." I guess we just need to wait until people will dare to change or at the very least be open to change.
