Protesters in Iowa and elsewhere around the country are gearing up to rally against tax day with "tea parties."

Tea parties will take place to protest taxes. They're designed after the Boston Tea Party protesting British taxes during colonial times.

An estimated 200 people attended the rally on Iowa City's Burlington Street bridge. The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Tea Parties are also scheduled for Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Davenport, Des Moines, Council Bluffs, Mason City, Sioux City and Spencer.

The demonstrations are being held everywhere from Kentucky, which just passed tax increases on cigarettes and alcohol, to South Carolina, where the governor has repeatedly criticized the stimulus package. Large protests also are expected in Madison, Wis., California, New York and Atlanta.
