SAN MATEO,CA--Very strong winds caused heavy damage along the San Francisco Bay Peninsula.
These high winds in San Mateo, County, cause the San Mateo Bridge, the third main bridge to cross the San Francisco Bay, to close.
Because of the high winds, a truck's trailer, which was empty, turn over and block the traffic for several hours on the bridge. Meanwhile, a boat, because of the wind, hit the side of the bridge, which the United States Coast Guard had a hard time removing from the side of the bridge. As of 11:57 p.m., traffic going west on the San Mateo Bridge is still closed--expected to open sometime around 4: a.m. Wednesday.
The high winds caused trouble all up and down the San Francisco Bay Peninsula: rain, thunder storms, and heavy hail in many areas of the peninsula.
