Layoffs will soon happen in Full Public View.
Which means if you are the unlucky one you will need to bear the additional ignominy of getting the stick in front of your family and friends who will be watching it all on telly.
Wonder what sort of an entertainment value such a show would carry! It might instill fear, yes, and people might watch it to see who's next, which company's doling out the pink slips, and all such pathetic stuff. If this show becomes a hit you'll know for sure that fear sells, afterall!
It is this aspect that Fox TV network expects to exploit to the hilt with an upcoming reality series that will be titled, "Someone's Gotta Go". And go someone will each week from a different company as a group of employees decide the fate of one of those who had till then been their colleague at work. How sad?
Will the show end up flogging the dead horse of a troubled economy or will it wake up the powers-that-be and make them seize up the situation and take concrete steps to uplift the economy, is yet to be seen! Though I feel, there surely will be those who will not like the idea of the show at all!
The air by date has not been finalised yet, but Fox says that the show is being developed by the same company, Endemol USA, which earlier brought out such reality shows as "Deal or No Deal", "Fear Factor" and "Big Brother".
The show's host has also been kept a closely guarded secret though it has been revealed that it will be anchored by a business consultant who doubles up as an advisor to the participating companies.
