Vermont overrules governor to legalize gay marriage

The Vermont legislature has made it official that it will recognize same sex marriages. This victory for the gay community is huge considering that it receiveda big victory last week from the Iowa Supreme Court. The gay community is definitely looking to make noise not only in Vermont but, across the United States.

I think this is great news for the gay community. I however, wonder what is the bid deal about having same sex marriages recognized? I am not familiar with these types of touchy issues and was wondering if anyone can clarify this for me. In the research and analysis I have conducted and heard, the churches and religious entities are extremely upset over this issue because in the Bible being gay is considered a crime and embarrassing (back in the old days). After all I know that when people think of marriage it is always associated with a male and female counterpart.

I look forward to hearing people's excitment, concerns, anger, joy or whatever other emotions are flowing through the air.
