Heya Everybody,

It feels just like yesterday when I had posted 'myVox's 100th' as a tribute to AllVoices and Amra Tareen. I had also posted 'myVox's 50th' earlier to recount my AllVoices' journey till then.

I had decided though that I'll not do a 'myVox's 150th'. However, I am doing it 'coz of something that happened to me only yesterday.

Yes, I got spammed yesterday. For the first time on AllVoices!

If you want to learn what I mean, check the comments in my post regarding the bikers' brawl that happened in Sydney airport a few days ago.

The two threads of comments from an unknown 'lamp-chop' who changed colours and became 'chop-chop' by the time he sent me out his second jibe had almost took me off-guard. I must confess they also did upset me a lot.

But, in every crisis you find new friends. And I found two of them. Seeing my response#1, 'BorderExplorer' sent me out a message saying my response was 'masterly'. I had just started smarting over it when the second attack occured.

I did reply again & told the flamer (that's what 'BE' calls such types) in no uncertain terms that I wouldn't get into another round with him.

It was then I saw another comment coming in. To my relief, it was from 'onlinebusinesswoman' who had taken up my cause and come to my rescue.

How nice of this girl who was returning to AllVoices after about a month's sabbatical. It looked as if she was God-send, only for my sake.

I am sure all of you would love to read what 'obw' wrote to 'lamp-chopX3'. That might have scared the s_ _ _ out of the fellow. He's not returned till now.

But who knows ...

AllVoiceans should take this as a message to beware of spammers. This could be a new threat as our site is up and growing fast by the day.

I recovered because I found two friends in BorderExplorer and onlinebusinesswoman. Of course, I also took recourse to a few funny videos on SPAM (includes two by Monty Python). Not to mention the cartoons on spamming that can become your tutorial on all things SPAM!!

Here they are provided for you to check out the dreaded disease called SPAM - just for a bit of comic relief!!!

Hey, did you like the videos more or were the cartoons better??

    Hello myVox,

We thank you for all your contributions and shared perspectives on our site. We’re also happy to hear you’ve found fans & friends on our site! BorderExplorer and onlinebusinesswoman are indeed great community members.

In the spirit of Allvoices, we’d like express our opinion about this ‘spam report’ you posted. We read the comment thread (written argument) from the report you reference here (http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/2798192-sydney-bikers-ambushed-taxis-precursor). We’d like to clarify that lamb-chop/chop-chop's comments are not spam. They are opinions. See the Wikipedia definition of spam at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam.

Users can disagree on Allvoices, and we encourage users to express their opinions. We understand you didn’t like the comments that this user made, but like reporting, sharing an opinion (even if you disagree) is also part of open media. Every person has a right to an opinion. They only thing we don’t condone is when users violate our terms.

Thank you again, and we appreciate you as a community member!

Thanks allvoices. I stand corrected here.

Thanks allvoices. I stand corrected here.

But I must state that I indeed had checked the definition of spam, quite interestingly, on the same wikipedia page whose link is provided above and I had felt lamp-chop/chop-chop's comments were in line with the meaning as given on that page (relevant portion appended below):
    .........
Spam (electronic), unsolicited or undesired electronic messages; in particular:
    ........

The reason why I concluded so was not because I did not like the comments or because they were indeed "unsolicited or undesired electronic messages" but because the person changed his name in between messages. That his message to me as lamp-chop was his maiden comment on the site had made me a bit suspicious. Ditto for his message as chop-chop.

Anyways, as mentioned I stand corrected and hope that lamp-chop/chop-chop is here for the long haul, and we have many more opinions to share going forward - on this beautiful site.
