The citizen-journalism Website ALLVOICES is publishing a contributor's first novel, PSYCHEDELIC SUNRISE.
Ken Boyte, who first joined the site in 2008, believes that the diverse audience of ALLVOICES will welcome the alternative views expressed in his novel.
The novel, PSYCHEDELIC SUNRISE, examines multi-cultural, ethno-political, and psycho-social issues through the multi-dimensional lenses of magical realism. Boyte makes the heavy philosophical content of the novel accessible to the reading public by using popular metaphors and enlisting Cheech-and-Chong type characters partying it up with a protige of the Hunter S. Thompson School of Journalism.
“Finally, a novel that dares to challenge the foundational assumptions of western civilization and pop culture. PSYCHEDELIC SUNRISE has tremendous potential...keep up the good work!”

"I LOVE THIS!!! Gonzo Journalism meets Timothy Leary and William Burroughs on the way to a Clash Concert! Keep it up! Turn it UP!”

Focused on the allegorical life of EVERYMADMAN Millbrook Tavistock, the PSYCHEDELIC SUNRISE is a metaphor for redemption. Mardi Gras is a symbol of his decadence. The drugs are symptomatic of a society still sick from the economic world wars of capitalism.
In graduate school, Boyte founded, edited, and published the award-winning SATYAGRAHA magazine (Society of Professional Journalists, Mark of Excellence Competition, “Best All-Around Student Publication,” Second Place, 1991).
Opposing the Gulf War, fighting for social and environmental justice, and exposing corporate corruption were central themes of the grassroots publication. PSYCHEDELIC SUNRISE is a biographical contextualization of SATYAGRAHA.
Boyte received a Master’s degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University in 1992 and a Bachelor’s degree in journalism from Auburn University in 1987. He also studied journalism as an exchange student in 1989 at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Western Australia. After college, Boyte traveled abroad and taught English for 7.5 years.
The restructuring of CTB/McGraw-Hill in January 2009, where he worked in educational publishing since 2004, provided the time to complete PSYCHEDELIC SUNRISE.
To promote the novel, Boyte has formed an activist-oriented rock band (www.myspace.com/lovedog420jamband). He hopes to recruit musicians and take the book and the band on an international tour, starting with Europe in the summer.
