Charles Barkley Going to Jail

PHOENIX - Former NBA star Charles Barkley has begun serving a three-day sentence on a drunken driving charge.

Maricopa County sheriff's Deputy Lindsey Smith says Barkley reported to Tent City on Saturday morning. She did not respond to further requests for information.

It's unclear whether Barkley is being housed separately from other inmates in the tents.

The 45-year-old basketball great pleaded guilty last month to two misdemeanor DUI charges stemming from his Dec. 31 arrest shortly after leaving a Scottsdale nightclub and failing a field sobriety test.

A message left with Barkley's attorney was not immediately returned Saturday morning.

Barkley said last month that he made a mistake and just has "to take the beatdown."

People are saying he got off the hook easy. It was supposed to be 10 days, but if he enrolled himself into some program it was going to be 5 days. I don't know what happened abut it eventually became 3 days. Charles has some problems, but he's a good guy. He apologized on TNT and accepted the mistake as 100% his fault. He messed up, and now he's doing his time. Hopefully he really did learn from it. As an NBA veteran and hall of fame inductee, he is still a role model and example to many kids and adults out there.

I don't know what his reading was, but those DUI laws that were passed due to federal threats of removal of highway funding are nothing more than a "social drinking" tax now due to the levels they are. And using a subjective method of testing that many in Arizona cannot even comply with, breathalyzers, due to the huge number that suffer respiratory diseases there. The founder of MADD has left that organization due to the fact that now the police are hanging outside of bars waiting for people to exit in order to fill quotas in order to continue receiving those federal grants. And the true drunk drivers are still on the roadways. It's really nothing more, at this point, than a scam for revenue. And in Arizona they levy a $500 fine in addition to the usual fines to fund a "prison construction fund," and then charge those taxpaying citizens for their own accomodations in tent city - a jail which has now lost it accreditaton due to the horrible conditions there.

And the State of Arizona sold its prisons and privatized them, and now leases them back at higher expense.

That State right now is really, really screwed up. And I should know, I left two years ago after 45 years there due to McCain's betrayal on the amnesty, and the rest of those government officials. If those borders had been fenced six years ago as they should have been, people wouldn't be getting kidnapped and the border war would have not resulted in even more loss of Arizonans lives.

I hope you boot all those legislators out of there, and Sheriff Joe, because they are continuing to play games while Arizonans continue to be made homeless and die. All the need to due is sue the feds under the Constitution for "breach of contract," instead of continuing to play the games while more die.
